I Took The Plunge....

Yesterday I took the plunge and went to 24 Hour Fitness and signed up! Today I had my first meeting with my trainer and learned how to use 3 of the hundreds of machines they have. My trainer was really nice.... except for the part where she didn't seem to believe me when I told her I gained 30 pounds within 6 months after having a hysterectomy, and another 30 when I took anti-depressants and that... is how I got so overweight. She went over the fact that 1 lb. of fat weight equals 3500 calories. I don't want to argue with what seems like a logical scientific fact, but I do know that Doctors are FINALLY agreeing that those two factors can cause weight gain. They used to say that anti-depressants caused weight gain because they make you feel hungry and you eat more. Now they just say they can cause weight gain....period. I think you can gain weight without over eating...the same way that stress from a death in the family or divorce, etc. can cause weight loss or weight gain. I have seen it happen many my lifetime. But...of course I could just be in denial that I consumed 245,000 extra calories that caused the weight gain. But when you are in denial, you don't know that you did that...right? So I am sticking with what I said before.
Anyway...other than that.. it felt really great to try something different. I know that exercise is going to make me feel a whole lot better, and I am excited about going. I was a little leery at first about having others watching me exercise, because I have been known to be a klutz at times....but maybe it will just create some funny stories to tell to the grand kids. I've got plenty...but I can always use a few more.
Our weather was EXTREME today!!! I don't know what the temperature was, but while I was out the wind was fiercely freaking freezing! I think about 900 people in the city lost their electricity and several trees blew down. We had light snow, but no accumulation. I had to go to the store to purchase a lock and small towel before my appointment, and went to put the items in my trunk and the wind blew my trunk on my head. OUCH!!! Not a good way to start out to the gym. No brain damage that I have noticed yet though.
Maybe later in the week I will talk about a book I just finished by one of my favorite authors, Vince Flynn. Right now I am freezing and have to go get under the covers!

The wind was awful here, yesterday although the sun was shining, and it's like 17 this morning with a single digits wind-chill! Brrr! No snow though, thank goodness.

Good luck at the Fitness Center. I just went for a check-up Monday and weigh 112 lbs, so I have maintained my weight, thank goodness. And we do a lot of eating out. The low carb way is perfect for me. I don't work out but we do a lot of walking for exercise.

We had that same wind here too - & today it's frigid, but also have snow flurries. It's pretty, but I hope it doesn't mess the roads up.

I remember taking a jazzercize class once. We were doing the grapevine & I got tangled up & went over just like a tree. Whomp! LOL. I am NOT a graceful person. But you're right - it will make you feel better, so keep at it!

No only did we have wind, we got 12-15 inches of snow for it to blow around. Very ugly day yesterday.

I joined Curves a few years ago, and I enjoyed it. But, than health problems happen, I had surgery, and never rejoined. Now I am a Lazyboy Potato, and getting fatter by the minute. LOL...

I hope you lose those extra pounds and I know if you do you will feel better, and even if you don't lose the pounds, the exercise will help you feel so much better. So Go For It Girl!!

And now they're finding that some obese children have missing genes that may contribute to their weight problems.

That sounds a good idea. I'm a member of a gym too but I rarely go on the machines I prefer to swim. I feel great after a swim and knackered after the gym! Hope it goes well.

Hope the weather improves for you. We've been lucky in the UK well apart from Cumbria where they've had horrendous floods. We had our double glazing put in today so I've been sitting with no windows and doors plus no heating all day. Only one window left to do tomorrow!

Yeah for you, going to the gym, that's great!! And had to laugh at the "no brain damage yet that I know of". You'll be a pro at the machines in no time, I bet.

I hope your head is feeling better!

We had a big storm too. I kept my fingers crossed that we wouldn't lose power. Since the winters have started getting warmer, we're more likely to lose power over ice storms. When we first got her some 16 years ago, it was too cold for snow to weigh down the trees. Now, I worry a lot.

I'm always strugging with weight too. I'm sure I eat too much, but I never binge and go wild like some comedy shows like to portray heavy people doing.

Exercise is good, though. Even if you're not doing it to lose weight. It's good to keep in shape.
