Music

I usually only listen to music when I am in my car running errands or at the Teen Dance that we sponsor at our church. Or on television. I remember music being so important when I was a young girl up until age 29 when I gave birth to our daughter. From then on it was usually Sesame Street songs or Wee Ones Sing Along. I guess every once in awhile I heard some popular music but I don't remember all that much about how or when I heard it. During various times in the past several years I have loaned my car to my son or son-in-law and found that they must have set the stations to their music styles. I listen to a lot of those stations still today. I do have to add while I am thinking about this, that I think St. Louis has the worst music stations for being a fairly big city. It is almost as bad as our local cable company. Anyway, every once in awhile I hear a song that I really love, weather it is the melody or singing style or the upbeat feel to it. Then I realize the lyrics that I am singing along to are slightly odd, or at least for someone my age. A few examples are some of Maroon Five. I love almost all of their songs, especially "Sunday Morning". But some of the others have some pretty provocative lyrics! A song recently that has really caught my attention is by a singer named, Adele, and the song I think is called 'Just Keep Chasing Pavement'. I love that song. But when I went to google it I was directed to her video on you tube. Very odd. I must not be a very creative artist. Well, I KNOW I am not. I just don't understand the meaning behind so much of these things. Either that or I should just admit that I am too old to GET IT. The Teen dances are a real challenge for us. At least I kinda know what the latest styles are and music and how they dance. For the 6th through 8th graders anyway.
Do you ever have those times when your mind actually doesn't register how old you are? Like you hear a song that makes you want to jump up and boogie at a nightclub somewhere, and then you remember how OLD you are. And if those visions in your mind were to be real, your fat arm wings flapping to the beat, along with your arthritic knees giving out, and over sized fanny trying to shake it.....GEEZZZZZZZ! My old mind does play tricks on me sometimes. I can still dream about and remember my youth. Still have that. Just memories. I was never much of a clubber even in my youth. But I did go to a lot of dances in high school, and was even on a dance show here in St. Louis called "St. Louis Hop". I wish I could find a tape of that, since I have never seen it. It was a show similar to "America Bandstand." Remember that one? They rated the songs. I give it a 8 because it was good to dance to. Okay I am off to see if there are any you tubes about America Bandstand.

Okay Maybe I Don't Laugh Like A Hyena

Just have to say Thanks to Rudee and Winifred for trying to play the game. Rudee found an image of a hyena, and Winifred remembered the part in Lady and The Tramp with the laughing hyenas, but couldn't find it on you tube. She did find a couple of other scenes from The Lion King and a zoo scene. My laugh is nothing like those, or I don't think it is. I think when I said that I laughed like a hyena, I was thinking that I laugh really hard and can't stop sometimes. When I think something is funny I don't just have a chuckle, I have a laughter breakdown, sorta. But looking at some of them on you tube, I didn't find any like mine. So Thanks for trying ladies!

Tag You Are It

Reader Wil has tagged me for a game of sharing six things about yourself. She is on my blog list on the side. Go check out her blog. She recently posted a slide show with some art work that I LOVE. The art work reminds me of some quilts that I have seen at Quilt shows..well sort of. I think it would be hard to make a quilt patterned after this art, but still it did remind me of some I have seen.

Here are the rules of the game:
Link to the person who tagged you

Share six random things about yourself

Tag six people and let them know they are tagged on their own blog
Feel free to play the way you want.

Six things about me:
1. I try to live my life by " The Golden Rule".
"Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You".
2. Idle gossip really bothers me.
3. My favorite beverage is mineral water (mendota springs) mixed with grapefruit juice.
4. I fear I am becoming lazy.
5. I fear I now have "man hands". Seriously..I will show a picture to prove it.
6. I laugh like a hyena.

Now with all of these astounding revelations about myself I will tag these folks:

Rudee (I challenge her to find an image of a hyena)
Sandy (I challenge her to draw a picture of a hyena with man hands)
CC (I challenge her to draw a picture of a hyena with man hands drinking water)
Renie (I challenge her to write a story about a hyena)
Ann (I challenge her to find a quote about a hyena)
Winifred (I challenge her to find a you tube about a hyena)

All the rest of you are off the hook, unless that is you want to get in the fun and then I say go for it!

Shopping Days

photo from wiki commons

I was having a luncheon meeting at my house on Monday and went to get some ice out of the freezer and it wasn't frozen. I checked on the other items and none of the other frozen foods were frozen either. It didn't take long to figure out the freezer part of our side by side must be going out. We decided to go check out some new refrigerators because this one is 20 years old, and we didn't think it would be worth the cost of repairs. First I went to an outlet mall we have nearby. I got a real slap in the face walking through the mall because so many stores were closed or were almost closed. I hear on the news every day about how many stores are closing and companies laying off, so I don't know why I was so surprised. But I was. I was only there to look for refrigerators but decided to walk around for the exercise. Very few people seemed to be in a good mood. The other thing that surprised me was that I didn't see very many bargains. Even at the outlet store I couldn't find a decent refrigerator for under $900. Most were $1,000 to $2500. Why do they make so many fancy refrigerators??? It was really difficult to figure out what our basic needs were for a fridge and then try to find just that. A basic side by side. Today I had to go out some more and I think I found one for $$900 that we will have to settle on. Either that or try to repair this one and see if it makes it another year. So, I have decided I will have to give up buying any little extras, like yarn and fabric and books. I needed to do that anyway, so no big deal. I had hoped to start working on a quilt with these free days I just had instead of shopping for a new ice box. Que Sera sera......

Thanks Rudee!

Rudee had a contest for her "One Year Anniversary" in the blogging world, and I won her beautifully hand knitted Clapotis shawl. Go here to read about it. Be sure and click on her link to go back and see the work in progress. It makes me appreciate it all the more. She persuaded me, a few months ago,to take up knitting again after leaving it in the closet for about 25 years. I have done little else since then. I know that Rudee is a very busy lady. She works more than 40 hours a week as a hospice nurse, volunteers her services for Breast Cancer Walks, helps her friend Jeannie, keep her blog going, takes care of her family, and God only knows what else. She entertains us with blog posts, pretty much on a daily basis. She is amazing! Okay I better stop now before she starts getting a halo over her head. I received my prize yesterday! It is so soft and warm and she included a few extra charming items with it!

How did she know I hate to exercise?????
I think she reads between the lines on my blog.

She must also know that I bore easily and need challenges in my life.

Here is the shawl at my house.

And....the one thing that she asked was that the winner take a picture of themselves with it. It is really hard to take a picture of yourself when you don't know where the timer is on the camera. This is the best that I could do. I was going to have someone take a picture of me with it, and then photo shop me into a beach scene or something but the chance of that happening anytime soon is slim. I decided to just get over my dislike of pictures of myself and comply with Rudee's wishes.

THANK YOU RUDEE!!!!

Wizard of Oz Quilt

Bob's sister Lois gave us a quilt for Christmas. She did a great job on it! I love how she put the browns and blacks in to go with the sepia color scenes. The pictures don't do it justice, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Bob is going to keep it on his reading chair. The last picture is the back, or front..they are both very pretty. I asked her to get on her tippy toes, and she said she was. Ha! The poor little woman is shorter than I am. She made a beautiful embroidered picture for Maddies room also, but I didn't get a picture of that yet.

Thanks Ann!

My blogger buddy Ann, who has several blogs to keep you entertained, has kindly included me in her list of friends to pass this award to. Ann updates her blog on a regular basis and has gotten very creative with her pictures, stories and quotes. Thanks Ann!

The following explanatory paragraph is to be included when you post about this award, so remember that, recipients!

"The Friends Award isn't about being the most popular blogger or having the most read blog. It is just because you are a friend." Here is the cleverly written text of the award: "These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbon of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

It makes me uncomfortable to single people out, this is one reason I don't care that much for the blog award process. Well here goes my choices:

Rudee
Sandy
BJ
Betty
CC
Winifred
Kat
Before Our Time
Reader Wil
Myra
Renie
Ann
Rositta

I am pretty sure these are the ladies that visit my blog regularly and leave comments and I enjoy getting to know you all and consider you a great friend!

They Are All Older Than Me!!!

On my home page when I log on, there is a birthday list everyday of famous people. Today it was the following singers and they are all older than me. Some people that know me, may find it weird that I like Robert Palmer and have his greatest hits. His music makes me want to dance, even though I would only dance if I were by myself and no one was looking.

Maddie Turns ONE

Our grand baby turned ONE this past week. Here are a few pictures that turned out good enough to save off. All of the others are blurry, or too much red eye or no one is looking at the camera. The group picture is of all the babies that were born in the year 2008. The youngest one is just 5 weeks, then 6 months, 2 of the babies are around 9 months, and then Maddie is in the lead at One year. There are other little ones at the party, 2 little boys that are 3 and one little boy that is 2 1/2 and his Mom is expecting a baby in 6 weeks. Those pictures didn't take. I think everyone had fun. We had plenty of toys for all of them to play with. The one little nine month old boy is Maddie's boyfriend, I hear. He brought her flowers and a Valentine card and a framed picture of himself to put in her room. Too cute!
Tomorrow I am hoping to show a picture of a quilt that Bob's sister made him.

Me and Maddie

video

Bob helped me to figure out how to get this movie clip to work, so here is a short conversation I was having with Maddie. Hope to be able to do another update when I get time.
