The Time Traveler's Wife

Bravo...Bravo!!! Hands are clapping here with a standing ovation. My daughter and I went to see "The Time Traveler's Wife" last night and... can you tell.... I liked it....a lot! Having read the book about 2 years ago, I had forgotten some of it, so my expectations were not real high. I remember loving the book and passing it on my daughter but I thought it was one of those books that could never be made into a movie. It has a magical style about it that I just couldn't see being put on film. I was very wrong. The movie was every bit as good as the book. I really do hope it wins some awards. I was not familiar with the main actress or actor and I think that was a very wise move on whomever makes those decisions. As much as I like Dan Brown's books that were made into movies, the casting was not right at all, in my opinion. I love Tom Hanks, but he was not right for his role in "Angels and Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code".
When this movie comes out on video, I will be watching it again. Loved it!

Really....You Don't Say..............

Before I try to go to sleep at night for the past several weeks I have been reading this book that I checked out from the library. I was stunned at the things I read about LBJ and JFK more than any others. Stunned because I remember when they were Presidents and have never heard these stories until I read about them in this book. I went on line trying to seek the truth of these stories. Looked in the back of the book to see where the stories came from. I have given up trying to find out the truth. How can we ever really know the truth about anything that we hear, second hand or read. I am a "Doubting Thomas" sort of person. I rarely believe anything unless I see it for my own eyes or hear it with my own ears.
Yet here I am fascinated with the contents in this book! A few years ago we were planning a trip to DC and did not get to go. I wanted to include touring the White House in our trip and researched how to go about doing that. We had to get security clearance and did. That trip just wasn't meant to be. Now I think I know why. I would like to read all of this book and several more like it so that I can keep my eyes and ears alert to anything that could shine some light on the truth or non truth behind some of these fascinating stories.
I did a post not long a ago about our touring The Clinton Library in Little Rock. I think that was what caused me to search out some books at the library about the White House. I probably won't stop with this book. Once I get interested in something I get on a roll . Hopefully someday I will get to take that tour.

Changes In The Air....

My internal clock seems to be a little off from everyone's else s I think. Around this time of year when September is approaching, I feel something in the air that maybe others experience in January at the beginning of a new year. I think it is because I have a holiday birthday that falls on July 4th. Having a holiday birthday takes away from the specialness of your own birthday. It just doesn't feel like I have a real birthday, if that makes any sense. So many times I feel my birthday is just in January when the new year begins.
September always feels like my "new year" also. As a child growing up it was the beginning of school and all the nervous excitement of it all. New clothes, books, teachers, classmates...sometimes I miss that. As an adult September means all of the holidays will be right around the corner. And for us here in the midwest we have the winter weather to look forward to. The months that are soon approaching seem to go by so quickly. I have had a hard time getting excited about all the holidays, in the same way that I used to when I was younger, for the past several years. I think because my parents, grandparents and other family members have passed away and the holidays have been rearranged somewhat.
I hope this year will be different for me though. I hope to revive some of those excited new feelings with our grand daughter. She will bring about all the excitement I used to feel as I see it all through her eyes.
