Rain.................

Unlike Gene Kelly, I don't feel like singing in the rain. We have had rain for too long now, and I am getting tired of it. Enough already! Our fall colors have really been beautiful though, and the good news is that the weekend should be better. Bob and I are still a little under the weather, but hopefully that will pass soon also. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Our new Stove

A couple of months ago we had to buy some new appliances and one of them was this stove. This isn't a picture of ours. Ours is black and I couldn't get a photo of it without a large glare, so I borrowed this one off the Internet. I was really excited to get a new stove because ours hadn't been working real well for a year or so. The oven would not bake right most of the time, and well, the stove was about 19 years old when it stopped working like new. So it was time to get a new one. Deciding what to replace it with was hard, because we don't think we will retire in this house, so didn't want to spend alot of money on one. This one was some where in between. It wasn't real expensive nor real cheap. I was really excited to be getting the four burners, with a warming spot because our old stove had one large burner and one small one. The other side had a jenn-aire grill. Those must have been popular in the late 80's, because I don't remember seeing any when we were out looking. Well...the reason I am writing this post is because I wish I had done some homework before we went out looking because I am having a time with this stove! It heats up really fast and I can't seem to get a handle on the temperature. I have burnt almost everything I try to make on it. If I turn it too low, it doesn't cook well, in the middle is even too hot. High heat is more like...get the fire extinguisher ready. The oven has a feature that I thought sounded interesting. It doesn't have a heating element stuck around the shelves that you could accidentally burn yourself taking things out. The elements are hidden behind the walls. The problem with the oven is that I have several Pampered Chef stones and bake-ware that I have used for 20 years with no problem. Now this new oven is making the pizza crust really hard, so I think it is overheating.
I doubt if I go to Sears and tell them I just don't like it or can't get used to it...they will let us trade it in. But I am going to go in there and at least tell them my issues and see what they say. So.....if you are thinking of getting a stove like this one, I would caution against it. I wish now I had gotten one with the burners that have the elements showing.
I think we just have some really bad luck when we have to go buy something new or get some repairs done around the house. Something usually goes wrong......

Wednesday Random Dozen

I found this meme over at Dana's, who got it from Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee, and I thought I would try it today.
Feel free to join in if you like.

1. Candy corn: Your thoughts?

Like it a little too much.....glad it only comes to the stores once a year. Even then, I don't always get to have it. I always seem to be on a diet....sigh...

2. Briefly, what was the first conversation you ever had with your spouse? (or best friend, if you're not married.) (Or someone significant, like your librarian.)

We worked at the same company. I worked in the back room building computers and he worked in the front as a software engineer. I think I asked him if he wanted to come to a "toe wrestling " event at lunch time. That is what is wrong with the world today...people forget to have fun at work sometimes. I bet if he were asked this question though, he would remember something different. It was a very small company, and we did lots of fun things but managed to get the work done just fine.

3. Could you ever become a vegetarian?

Not completely. I really don't like meat very much at all. But every once in awhile I crave it.....so probably not. The same way I can't give up sugar. It is in most things, so not having a certain food or ingredient is just too much trouble.

4. Have you ever dressed up your pet in a costume?

Many times......see photos. I miss him so much.... Sorry...I can't find the photos..he had on glasses and a hat.

5. Name something about childhood that you miss (like Clark Bars, Teaberry Gum, Malibu Barbie, cracking fake eggs on people's heads with your fist and "It's the Great Pumpkin" airing only once a year).

I didn't have any of those things. But what I miss is the wide open fields, with so many trees, flowers, and vegetables. Being able to play outdoors all day with very few fears or worries.

6. Have you ever won a trophy? If not, what do you deserve a trophy for?

No trophies that I can remember. I think I would deserve a trophy for being a good listener.

7. When do you think is the appropriate time to begin playing Christmas music each year?

November 29th sounds good this year.

8. What's your favorite board game?

We used to play a lot of games with the kids, so it will be hard to pick one. Cranium comes to mind. Sometimes it depends on what kind of mood I am in. Thanksgiving is coming up soon and we will play some games with the family, so this was a reminder to find the games and get then out and ready.

9. How do you feel about surprises (receiving, not giving)?

Don't like them.....I get scared easily.

10. Is it easy for you to say, "I'm sorry?"

Yes, I usually apologize for everything that is wrong in the whole world....I will take the blame. Ha...I think too much of myself if that is true.

11. What is your favorite candle scent?

Vanilla. Even with my smell disorder, I still love that smell.

12. October is traditionally "open house" time in public schools. If you had a literal open house in your home (like a reception) what light snacks would you serve visitors and what would you show them (as in art projects, graded papers) that would uniquely represent you?

Snacks...don't know because it would depend on who would be coming. I would search through my hundreds of cookbooks and come up with something I think they would like. I can't think of anything in particular to show people. Depends on who they are and what they want to talk about.

Names for the Baby

My daughter said that Maddie asked for MeMaw twice today! She likes me...she really likes me! I feel like Sally Field at the Academy Awards. She is getting old enough now to talk in sentences and say what she wants to say. Katy was asking if we wanted to put in some requests for names for the new baby. I said, Millie Mae or Me Maw. Millie Mae could be after my Mom and Grandma. Me Maw could be after me. She said .....NO. So I thought I would ask some of the people that visit my blog, if you know of any really cool Irish or Scottish names to suggest.
Stay tuned for tomorrows post where I complain about a stove we bought a few months ago.

A Great Place in the Country

We are having some Indian Summer weather here in the Midwest the past 2 days. Yesterday Bob and I went for another drive looking for fall colors, and we stumbled upon this area that has beautiful large homes with large lots. This is the lake view. There were artist there with their easels set up painting this scene. What a treat to find this area! We got lost in there and had to get out Bob's IPhone that has a GPS to figure out how to get out of there. It looked like it should be gated off and private, but it wasn't so we enjoyed driving around because they have some magnificent scenery.

Today I worked around the house cleaning and had the windows open. So wonderful to have the fresh air coming in! Okay....I think I am getting used to Autumn. I put the cover on the pool and that is the saddest part of Fall and Winter for me. I didn't get to swim nearly long enough this season.

While I was visiting blogs today I hopped over to Patty's and found that she received this nice award, and I was one of the blogger buds she passed it on to. Thanks Patty! I told her that when I was messing around changing my blog templates I lost the awards I use to have, and a few other things. I have also noticed that some of my links of blogs I visit have disappeared from my sidebar. I know I didn't do that, so I have to think that blogger has done that. I have heard of that happening before, so don't be insulted if your link is not there. It certainly wasn't my intention and I will try and restore it soon.

I will pass this on to these bloggers because they have been so faithful about visiting me
and I enjoy visiting them.

I know that some won't accept the award and that is okay....just wanted to let you know I appreciate your visits. Ann...I didn't put you on there because I remember you saying Please don't give me any more awards. But if you changed your mind, please take it!
