Peculiar Encounter

I don't usually like to talk about people or make fun of people, especially when it is on the Internet for all to see.....but I just have to do a short little post about an odd thing that occurred at the grocery store yesterday.  A lady walked by me and started talking about how beautiful the tray of fruit was.  You know those trays similar to the photo above and they are wrapped in cellophane and cost a small fortune, because you are having a last minute party and no time to cut it up yourself.  The lady appeared to be well educated and was dressed in business attire.  She was so animated and excited about this rather simple tray of cut up fruit.  "Look at that tray!!!!  Isn't it beautiful!"  "Oh my...it is lovely!!!"  I just looked at her an said...."Yes...."  But I thought to myself...what kind of "happy pills" is she on.  I have never seen anything quite like it.  No one I have ever known has been excited about a tray of fruit, unless they cut it all up themselves or something.  Certainly not one at the grocery store.  I have been pondering over this off and on since it happened.
That and I really don't have anything else to write about at the moment.....

Communication

One of the prizes we were raffling off at church, was an iPod touch, which I knew nothing about, but had to sound like I did, occasionally, when someone asked me about it.  Have you ever been in those situations where you felt you had to sound half way intelligent about a subject, but realized after all the crap came out of your mouth that you should have just said...."Hey, I don't have a clue what this thing does, but I hear it is great!!!"  My husband switched over to an iPhone about 6 months ago and I have watched him use his and have been thinking I would like to have one for a couple of different reasons.  It has an Internet so you have almost everything you use a computer for... right in the palm of your hands.  We have never owned a car that has a GPS system, so the first weekend he had his iPhone we were out for a fall drive and got lost and pulled over and looked on the map and got back on track.  We go to the bookstore whenever we get a chance and have coffee and conversation and we wonder about something we are talking about, and he gets out the iPhone and looks it up and there we have an immediate answer to our questions.  After 6 months of observing this, I wondered if even I could figure this little gadget out.  I finally took the plunge about a week ago, for two pretty good reasons.  One....I buy  a lot of books and then end up hauling them out of the house because I don't have room to keep them.  I can download books on the iPhone and read them in bed, or while waiting somewhere.  Two...we figured out after the initial start up fee we would be paying the same as we are now with my simple phone.  So...I have been having lots of fun learning how to use this little device.  I have downloaded an app that keeps track of my food intake along with my exercise for each day.  It tells me how much fat, carbohydrates, sodium, calories, etc.  I have had each day.  Very cool!  Then I uploaded an app that keeps track of what we purchase at the grocery store and emails me coupons for those items.  I have to admit I haven't had time to really use this one yet.  I have been too busy playing with the app that lets you load a photo of someone and then place their face in an old photo setting like this.

One thing that has been on my  mind a lot lately is the way that we have been communicating in the past few years.  With email, blogs, face book, twitter, and texting, I sometimes think we are missing out on some old fashioned porch talk.  I just wonder how this is changing our social abilities when we are actually face to face with others........

Easter 2010

This is a basket I made for Maddie.

We had a very nice week, even though we were busy just about every day and every evening. Here it is Monday morning and I am somewhat exhausted... but very grateful for the memories of the past week. The last couple of years we have been going to Sunday mass at St. Francis Xavier College Church because it is the church that Katy and Brian got married in and also because it is a beautiful church. Their Easter service is especially impressive, because they have the children proceed down the aisle with pretty ribbons and their cute Easter outfits. The music performances are flawless, to me anyway. Not being a musician, I only know what sounds good to me.

At the end of the mass there are older children upstairs who release lots of  balloons and they float all over the church. Maddie really loved that part. She was really well behaved for her age. She didn't have to be carried out into the hall because of crying or disrupting  others  But Grandma did a big no-no by giving her some paper and an ink pen to write with.  She got the ink on her pretty dress, and now I need to figure out what will get the ink out.  It didn't show in the photos we took after church though....thank goodness.

Our weather was close to being perfect, just a little windy at times.  The flowers and flowering trees are all blooming out.  I mowed the lawn for the first time this year... one day last week.  I still have a lot of clean up and flower planting to do, and taking the cover off the pool and getting it open and ready.  If our weather stays as warm as it has been, we will be swimming soon.  The day I mowed last week it was 87 degrees.  I think we almost broke a record for that day.  I have a feeling this month is going to fly by and soon we will get to meet our new grand baby.
Magnolia Tree
I love these trees, but they bloom for such a short time.
