Mothers Day

On Sunday, Mothers Day, I made German Apple Pancakes and bacon for my family. I purchased some cut up fruit with fruit dip to hold them over until the main dishes were complete.  Then Katy and I went for a stroll down on Main Street.  Our first stop was to the Art Foundry where I snapped a few photos of some very artsy quilts.

I noticed some were for sale..... for thousands of dollars.

I remembered seeing some of these a few years ago
at a show there
I struck up a conversation with the lady who is in charge of the Foundry's events.

We chatted for awhile and I told her I was a quilter and had been going to quilt shows for 20 plus years.  She asked me what I thought of these.  At the time, I told her.... while I appreciate the work that goes into them, some were just too artsy for my taste.   That really was my honest opinion a few years ago.

But this time, after viewing them.... I came away with a different perspective.  I had a greater appreciation for the difficulty level of these quilts.  Many quilts are assembled by lining up seams perfectly so that they will press out and lie flat after the top is completed.  If you look at all the different shapes in some of these...I don't see how in the world they could have all fit together so nicely.  I know that wall art quilts can be different from regular quilts because they don't go through the wear and tear of washing.  So it could be that they are assembled without a typical quarter inch seam.

I still do not understand how this piece is "art".  One part is yarn and the other looks like strips of fabric.

And last but not least here is the floor of the Children's Art section.
 Looks like fun doesn't it?
 Silly string gone wild.
We are still anxiously awaiting the birth of our little granddaughter.
She is coming close to being 2 weeks overdue.
My poor baby.  She seems do be making the best of it though.
