One more week...

This time next week I will have surgery on my knee.  I cannot wait for some improvement to my mobility.  I feel like.. all I have been doing is sitting around like this.. big black bear.  If I am on my feet for even an hour or two, it is very painful and I have to sit down.  I have a torn cartilage and the doc is going to go in there and do something to it.  He said he thinks he can fix I am trusting in him to do it.  Having a two story house has not been good with bad knees.  I am going to do some serious persuasion for us to try and sell this house and find a ranch somewhere.  I have a feeling it will take a long time to find something.  Bob and I are not too keen on worrying about the upkeep, inside and outside of a subdivision home anymore.  I still have dreams occasionally  of a little place in the country where I can have a vegetable garden and a riding lawn mower.  Gas is  suppose to go up to $4 a gallon this summer and that will AGAIN drive up the cost of food.  It is already out of our league.  I still look at one green pepper at the store and they are asking $1.50 for it...and put it back on the shelf.  If you have a garden you can have more vegetables than you can eat.  I can't tell you how many times I have bought produce that I have paid so much for and brought it home just to find out it is bad on the inside.  Twenty years ago...I never would have dreamed that some of the most basic things like food, fuel for the car, and health care...would be such a concern..the way it is today.  I think that is about all I have for my weekly rant.  I actually wanted to give up negativity for lent this year.  As you can see...I would have failed at that one.  I am still a grouchy old bear...

Storm Damage

D.L. Douglas, 80, surveys the damage to a barn near his house northeast of Puxico, Mo., after a storm ripped through the area around 4 a.m., Feb. 29, 2012.  This is my Uncle.  I was so surprised to see this on the news.  I don't keep in touch with them very often since Mom and Dad passed away several years ago.  I watched the kids today and did not have the TV or news on.  Now it is 5 pm and I am watching the news and cannot believe how much damage and how wide spread this was.  Branson, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri....130 mile an hour winds.  All in the middle of the night.  It was so windy here all day...but gust of only 47 miles an hour.  Can you imagine 130 miles an hour.  I haven't heard  how many deaths or injuries yet.   Prayers for them all.  It takes a long time to clean up after these disasters.
Now I just heard we have had 120 tornadoes in 2 months.  The speed also for some areas in last nights tornadoes were clocked at 170 mph.   Also found out that my cousin, who is DL and Fern's son lost his home in this storm.  The roads are closed and my cousin who lives around the area cannot get through to them.  Of course the media can though.

Bob and I went out and ran some errands today after church and made our way to Cracker Barrel for a bite to eat.  The waitress kept asking me if I wanted more coffee, even though I told her one cup was probably all I was going to drink.  When she handed us the bill...she said "I feel bad that you only got one cup of coffee.."  I told her she could have given me 3 pots and it wouldn't have done any more for me than one cup...(except to visit the restroom more often).  Then I told Bob..."I wonder why she thought I should have more than one it the price?"  I looked at the bill and saw that it was $1.89 for one cup of coffee.  We expect to pay $3 or $4 for a cup from a coffee shop... but not from a restaurant.  Or at least I had a brain fog moment when I was remembering when it was 10 cents a cup.  Bob said he thought it may have cost that much when Roosevelt was President.  I thought it was when we first married.  So..I .had to look it up when I got home.  Yes indeed it was 10 cents a cup in the mid 70's.  Just looking that up.... lead me to read some things about coffee that I had forgotten about.  Like it makes some people jittery.  It hasn't made me jittery in years.  Maybe after age just stops working?  You get a headache if you don't drink it.  I don't get that anymore either.  Caffeine can ward off migraines.  I have to agree with that....because when I feel one coming on...I take Excedrin for Migraines and it usually keeps it from getting out of hand.

One would think after looking at the above photo/chart (that I borrowed from Wiki) that we should all be drinking coffee as a vitamin supplement.  Some people can't drink coffee after a certain hour because it will keep them up at night.  Not me.  I can drink espresso from a coffee shop and take a nap afterwards.  I have not tried any of the energy drinks that have hit the market yet.  Like Red Bull, etc.  I have heard those are bad for you though.  I did try 5 hour energy and it did nothing for me.    I think for me personally....60 or 70 lbs off of my body would be the thing that would help me feel more energized.  It is so exhausting carrying around all this weight.  I wish coffee could help you burn off fat.  If you have read this post...share what picks you up...and gets you going.  Is it coffee...or something else....
